Jazz maestro Isaiah Katumwa to Jazz up Nairobi as he launches his East Africa tour dubbed “This Is Me”.
The tour that will cover Nairobi, Kigali and Kampala comes almost a year after the maestro celebrated ten years of Jazzing up Ugandan music lovers with a concert that he co-headlined with Hugh Masekela.
He had massive crowds that danced, locked and stamped the ground to different African rhythms and more to his credit, it wasn’t your ordinary audience, it had Uganda’s notable entertainment names like Bebe Cool, Juliana Kanyomozi, Irene Namubiru, Nana Kagga and Kenya’s Academy award winning actress Lupita Ny’ongo among others.
With the East African tour, the sax ace seems to be pushing the envelope beyond the limits.
He will kick off his tour with a performance at Daystar University where he will share his creative journey in compiling his tenth album, African, Smooth and Divine. The album has since been endorsed by Grammy Award winner Kirk Whallum.
The unplugged concert will allow student musicians an opportunity to perform with the jazz legend as well as connect with other jazz music students from various music schools in Nairobi.
According to his tour manager Rahab Nderu, the East African tour will also include an intimate sundowner music experience and a private listening party proudly sponsored by Nairobi Serena Hotel.
“We are excited to kick off the East African tour at a time when Isaiah’s music is topping the international charts. The tour will provide jazz lovers in the region, an opportunity to celebrate music that embraces our African roots alongside the sound of smooth jazz and reflects Isaiah’s divine beliefs” said Rahab Nderu.
Isaiah Katumwa is a Ugandan Jazz musician and Saxophonist. He has performed side by side with global icons such as Jonathan Butler, Hugh Masekela and Jimmy Dludlu and has opened performances for Miriam Makeba and Manu Dibango.
