Before she performed at the annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival earlier this year, many people may not have known who Tribute Birdie Mboweni was.
She though a fast rising South African Afrosoul artiste that’s fast making herself a household name on the continent’s music scene.
Next week, she’s one of the international artistes that will grace the Bayimba International Festival stage with such songs like MaGumede a rendition of Mam Dorothy Masuku’s song with the same title, Lerato, No More and Mpfula among others.
She’s a newcomer on the South African Jazz scene having released her debut album Birdie last year.
In an interview with New Age, she notes that the name for the album was inspired by her nickname Birdie, which was given to her by friends to mean song bird.
On the Bayimba stage, she will be joined by other acts like Akua Naru, Iryn Namubiru, Chris Evans, Ronald Mayinja, Gravitti Band and Mathias Walukagga among others.
This edition of Bayimba International Festival takes place on 16th – 18th September 2016
